Costa Rica Sportfishing Charters

costa rica sportfishing charters

Costa Rica was aptly named Rich Coast by Christopher Columbus in 1502. With its many beaches and temperate climate it is an anglers paradise, and Costa Rica sportfishing for a variety of fish such as sailfish, marlin, tuna, wahoo, roosterfish, dolphinfish, tarpon, dorado, grouper, etc. is consistent throughout the year. Over sixty-four world records have been caught in Costa Rica.

Captain Warren has selected the top charter boat captains for you. All captains have extensive experience fishing the local water and comply with safety regulations. Charter rates are set by the boat owners so you will not find them cheaper elsewhere. A day of fishing includes ice, bait, tackle, beverages and, on a full a day, lunches. Fishing licenses are purchased separately. Generally a half day (around five hours) consists of inshore fishing for bottom fish and a full day (around nine hours) of offshore fishing for billfish. Prices are per boat.

Tamarindo

World famous hot-spot Tamarindo is located at the southern end of the shallow, plankton rich Papagayo Gulf. Its close proximity to the continental shelf makes for a very short run time to the extremely fertile fishing grounds.

Quepos

Located on the Central Pacific, Quepos offers some of the world’s best bill fishing. From December through May, blue, black striped marlin and sailfish are abundant, and releasing more than 10 sailfish a day is a common occurrence.

Los Suenos

The luxurious and upscale Los Suenos is fast becoming one of worlds most sought after deep sea Costa Rica sportfishing destinations. Fish thrive in the calm and crystal clear waters just outside the bay.

Aguila de Osa

The challenge and excitement of some of the world’s best big game fishing awaits you at Aguila de Osa Inn. Over forty IGFA records have been set within 80 nautical miles including sailfish, black, blue, and striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, cubera snapper.

Costa Rica Sportfishing / Playa Tamarindo

Playa Tamarindo is located at the southern end of the shallow, plankton rich Papagayo Gulf on the northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The close proximity to the continental shelf makes for a very short run time to the fishing grounds. Tamarindo fishing is excellent year round and you can expect to catch roosterfish, snapper, wahoo, grouper, amberjack, mackerel, tuna, dorado, sailfish, marlin and more.

Tamarindo has a national airport with flights arriving daily from San Jose. Shuttles provide transportation to both Tamarindo and Flamingo. The Liberia International Airport is an hour away and is serviced by all major US airlines. For more Tamarindo information visit Tamarindo Beach Info.

From late December through March the winds are often extremely strong in Tamarindo, resulting in rough seas. For safety issues we do not book boats under 31 ft. If it’s windy on your day of fishing your captain will take you to a protected area (about 12 miles south) where you will fish in calm water, however the ride there and back may be rough.
